Teleplex 3.70 Released
June 20, 2009.
Teleplex 3.70 is now available. Highlights include:
- Teleplex now runs on various Linux distributions in addition to running on Windows XP,
and Windows 2003 Server.
Windows 2008 Server support should be available later this year. The
TPXDialer predictive dialer application is also available for Linux.
- All new API libraries in order to facilitate the Linux port. These are 99% source compatible
with previous libraries, but were re-implemented in order to achieve
cross-platform interoperability. This allows, for example, a likely
scenario that agent applications in a Call Center run on Windows XP or
Windows Vista, while Teleplex itself can run on either Windows or Linux.
Both the TPXIVRLib libraries and TPXApp libraries were modified to use our
TPXRPC protocol, which is cross-platform, works seamlessly with international
characters, and performs at least as well as the previous RPC / COM /
DCOM interfaces that were used.
- Applications such as Teleplex CallBrowser have
been updated to use the new APIs. The
discontinuance of Windows XP has been somewhat distressing for us, because
Windows Vista is not a viable alternative for a small IVR platform, and
Windows Server is overkill. Linux fills this void, and actually
provides some "server class" features that were not available on Windows XP
anyway.
- A few features were added to the
TPXIVR API so that we could implement our "QK
Teleconferencing" system.
- Teleplex, using
Dialogic's Host Media Processing ("HMP"), can now be used as a complete
IP-only IP-PBX. No external gateway is required
as with some IP-PBX solutions. Soft or hard IP phones
are used for extensions, and outside calls are placed via a SIP trunking
service. Of course you can still use Teleplex as a "hybrid"
IP-PBX where IP extensions are used along with a gateway board to connect to the PSTN.
